Im glad this was finally clarified.

I was always terrified of putting up an afk tag when i was camping long spawns for fear of being booted.

Now i can

/afk yes im camping it, im pooping or doing laundry while I wait for the pop.

without worrying about some D-bag jacking the camp.

AFK camping ... means letting your pet kill something, over and over, while you are afk. This is frowned upon.

AFKing between spawns on a 16 minute camp? Not afk camping..
As I read I was thinking this.. cus damn bro... I go afk ALL THE time when I camp shit.

1) I go afk

2) Even if im not afk I dont have to answer your tells

3) I might have your camp stealing ass on my IL.

Sorry to revive this old post, but this issue has came up several times for me lately with players who have not read this post. Can we please get this clarified and adjusted in the "camps defined" post and other areas where server rules are discussed?

From "Camps, Defined":

"6. AFK camping is not respected and is frowned upon, if caught afk camping you will be booted to the character select screen."

I can understand your plight, I am not always at my keyboard during play due to being busy (especially while medding though I don't afk camp).

However, Number 6 does say this is not respected and is frowned upon. The guidelines/rules or whatever they are, are what they are (and the GM's do a pretty awesome job here I think).

He doesn't sound too much like a douchebag (not having seen the chat myself), it does say in number 6 above that if you are caught afk camping you will be booted to the login screen. Basically he should have just reported you and got you booted, rather than fighting with you. Then the camp would be his as long as he wanted to camp it not afk.

This seems pretty straight forward based on Number 6 of the "Camps, Defined" thread, doesn't it?

#6 needs to be amended, imo. It was created to help discourage afk-exping by mages and necros and other pet classes back when if a pet did all of the damage, the owner got full exp.
AFK-Camping a mob is fine in my book, as long as you're killing the mob when it pops.

In this situation, if I asked someone if they were camping something and didn't get an answer in 5-10 minutes, I'd take the camp. If you came back 10 minutes later and started raging, I'd probably give it back. I can understand that sometimes your cat is on fire or you need to take a 20 minute shit.

Getting harassed sucks. That's inappropriate.

But:

1.) I don't care about your job.
2.) I don't care about your baby.
3.) I don't care about your wife.

Don't pull those holier-than-thou lines that imply you have a life and people who actually can camp something don't.

I really enjoyed playing this game way back when and I still do now ... just times have changed. I no longer have the time to group or do anything that requires me to be at the keyboard for hours at a time. New baby, new wife, new place, job, and everything in between. I consider myself lucky I can log on at all ...but to be hassled and harassed because I only have the time to play the game 30 seconds out of 16 minute spawn at a time.
If you were sending me tells like this I would absolutely laugh in your face and take your camp. In my experience, 95% of the time these lines are total bullshit. And even if you're telling the truth, please see points 1, 2, and 3.

These are one of those douchebags I mentioned....just basing this on the tone of the post and complete lack of consideration for any point except his.

I'm not making any assumption...

You sit at a camp and every 16 minutes you go over to the computer to kill a mob? If I were your wife, I would wonder where in that sixteen minutes you wouldn't be doing a countdown...

Just my opinion...
Phone has a stop watch...

Remember that holier-than-thou part?

But seriously, I was being honest with you, not trying to hurt your feelings. What I posted is the impression I get as to how many people feel when someone start spouting the "new baby new wife new job new house new garden new car new flaming cat" crap. It's not 1999, no one buys that anymore, and those that do will tell you that you might have your priorities out of order.

Anyway, every time I see one of these "he was mean to me" threads, I want to know the other side of the story. If you were nice and the guy started harassing you, yeah, he's a dick and that's inappropriate. But it's rarely that black and white. Typically there's a bunch of venom being spit on both sides.

Just because you heard a story a million times doesn't mean it is false.

I think his point is that it is very tired that we as a gaming community should feel bad for each individual person and their individual situation.

I have a wife, 4 kids (one who is 6 months old), hectic job, bills, etc...but I will not use that as an argument as to why I should be able to keep a camp.

Does it suck that you don't get that playtime anymore? Yes
Are we the ones that set up that situation for you? No
Should we feel bad or should you be entitled to something because of your situation? No
