I'm running win 7 64-bit and will likely stick with it for a long time, one concern of mine is the possibility of new games coming out and requiring direct x 12 which seems like it will only be available for win 10.

IT Professional here.

Upgrading my home PC to 10 as soon as it comes out. Not deploying it at work due to legacy application concerns.

I think the question on everyone's mind is: "Will windows 10 impact my ability to steal games, music, and videos?"

Why would it? If it did it wouldn't be very popular.

When is the last time a decent game got on the "you must be THIS good a goy to ride" wagon anyway? If the threat of disgusting slimy publishers of graffix-crutched trash colluding with MS for shit-os exclusivity is enough to convince you to downgrade your OS, you deserve the shitbrick with terrible start menu and 30 second phone-home to the Utah data center at startup you will get

I'm okay with Win10. Been using it for a while now. Nice and clean and combines metro/non-metro elements into one OS.

I can see myself using it as my primary work OS.

Most games aren't going to phase out DX9 support for a while. It's a rendering engine like OpenGL and there is no incompatibilities that say, 'we can't support this because it's too much work' at this time.

FFXIV has a DX11 and a DX9 rendering engine for example. DX11 obviously looks better.
