I want to play a solo class,
Wrong game.

Anyways, the magnitude of power going from solo to duo is immense, be it Shaman + Monk or Enchanter + Cleric, or even 2 Necros.

The other shoe is endgame versus levels:
A shaman at 30 solo is mediocre. A Shaman at 60 with Torpor is a different beast.

Like others have said, it really depends on the level, gear, and place. I personally have the most fun with Necros in undead dungeons. They require the least amount of gear, and can do some pretty amazing stuff but have to often be more creative about it than enchanters.

Having lifetap/feign death/harmshield is pretty clutch as well. If I die on my necro in pve there is a 90% chance I severely fucked up. Much smaller % chance on an enchanter.

Very true, a badly timed charm break and that can be curtains on an enchanter sometimes...no get out of jail spell until aoe mez doesn't mez you anymore (56-57?)

there's nothing wrong with soloing in eq, yes you will be more powerful with a partner but many classes are very good at soloing.

it is important to make the differentiation between soloing at max level with gear, and soloing to level up. if you want to level solo, look at druid, necro, bard, or wizard. if you want to solo dungeons at max level, check out ench, shaman, or necro.

Shaman is pretty darn good HIGH end, and I mean like 56 plus with a Epic, lots of expensive spells, expensive gear. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Chanter can do it at level 4 and hardly any gear other than Charisma stuff, which is pretty cheap overall, and not a lot of spell costs. And no Epic. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

You decide which is better, cheaper. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.][You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Enchanters get mean in the late 20s with gear. Shamans in the late 50s. Necros can solo 1 to 60.

Shams need a lot of gear and levels.
Enchanters need around 200 charisma.
Necros need 2 bone chips.

I think this may be one of the most elegant responses I've seen in a while ^^

Don't let these noobs steer you wrong. The best solo class hands down is the mighty warrior. My warrior named Nonexi Stent farms in Sleepers all the time.

Necro for undead dungeons. Enchanter otherwise. Shaman is good if the mobs are split up fairly well, but lack of lull/mez/FD makes dungeon crawling a lot more dangerous for shaman.

It's better to look at it by signature class abilities. Do you want to be able to instant invis, feign death, charm undead, and heal yourself with lifetaps? Pick necro. Do you want to be able to charm almost anything and lull/mez/memblur your way through dungeons, but without the ability to heal? Pick enchanter. Do you want nigh invincibility vs melee mobs w/70% slow and torpor, but without any real crowd control and much less DPS? Pick shaman.

I've got a 60 shaman and 60 necro and I played a 65 enchanter on EQMac. Shaman is probably the most powerful in terms of "difficulty of mob you can safety solo kill", and even though fights can take forever you feel pretty bad ass when you slow a mob and it's DPS drops while you passively heal yourself/canni and end the fight with full mana. Necro is incredibly fun to feign death your way around dungeons and just utterly destroy things with charmed undead. Enchanter is borderline overpowered with what you can kill with a charmed pet, but the likelihood of death is much higher, especially in Velious with all of the high MR/unmezzable/unstunnable mobs.

I played a shaman pretty exclusively on live. I didn't feel that the class really required Uber gear to excel. It took a little extra effort until epic, but I never felt limited before acquiring mine. But that was just my experience.

I currently have a little lizzy necro that I play while doing home work, or doing anything that requires a lot of tab time. I'm definitely looking forward to some dungeon camping on him. I never played any of the int casters on live and I was clearly missing out, necro is super fun.
