Every other servers magello/alla clone seems to put them around 100 hp, which would put them around or slightly above the other newbie yard trash according to our own(most of them seem to be pretty close to p99 regardless of server state). Checking old sites through archives shows nobody mentioning these being massive undercons.

Mind my autism here, I know that isn't exactly proof or near reliable evidence but its the best I could do to try and further my claim that something went numerically wrong in this zone. According to the wiki its been that way for 3+ years so who knows whats going on.

Yeah I noticed this too when checking the history and even other servers values for it. I have no idea why p99 and I think one other have such a disparity compared to the rest unless this really was the case in classic. I think even owing to statistical advantages and regen its way too high though but who knows what the original devs may have been thinking.

I'd like to stress that killing one of these even with a level advantage isn't a get lucky thing, its a get insanely lucky thing. Its not the norm that it actually dies to you short of you having insane rolls on your melee attempts. Again I know bad rolls and getting bad luck on something stupid even like a snake tearing you up at level 2 because of insanely poor luck but this is statistically loaded against every other mob in the game from what I've checked assuming the wiki and my recent experiences in other zones are right.

Clearly this is the most important issue of 2015 and I am not just having a newbie fit.

Regardless thanks for humoring my insanity.

Do what everyone else does... run to EC, ask for buffs, profit. In fact, if you're still on when I get home, I'll hit you up with some help. leave your GT here or msg me in game.

If you can, post logs of your encounter. It will give everyone a better idea of what's going on and allow us to rule out some possible causes.

To turn on logging, type /log on in game. All the text that appears in your chat window will be saved to /logs in your Everquest directory from that that time until you log off. To enable logging 100% of the time, edit your eqclient.ini file and add the line Log=TRUE.

Fight different mobs. Never try and kill and even con mobs until you're much better geared or in a decent group. Focus on blue cons. I would suggest the entrance to upper guk, it's doable at your level and pretty good with a group. If guk is too hard still look around Innothule for some blue cons that aren't fungus men. I remember them being a pain back in the day. Maybe try kobolds and frogloks?

If you really want logs I can post them later. I can tell you nothing wrong is happening other than the mobs have double the health pool of every other newbie yard+ content in the game.

There actually isn't any other mob to fight past a certain point. This isn't exclusive to fungus men, it applies to froglok fishermen and all the other level 5 mobs in the zone. The kobold hunters and such past this level range (7-8) are also astronomically higher health than anything else in the game at a comparative level range.

Yes I realize I can leave the zone. I know thats undoubtedly the optimal decision to be made here, that however isn't why I made the thread. I legitimately believe or suspect the values for mobs in this zone have been fudged for a long time according to the wiki.

http://wiki.project1999.com/A_fungus_man_tracker
http://wiki.project1999.com/A_froglok_fisherman

Etc. No other zone has such a ridiculous scaling of health that I've seen. I'm not looking for a solution to my personal problems(as we've all seen you can just waddle to ec), I'm looking to make the swamp great again or have a dev come in here and tell me this is how it was in classic despite everything seeming to be to the contrary. Maybe verant really hated trolls.

Edit: apparently the 3 fisherman I've killed today clocked in at 120 health~ This is a mystery.

The Wiki is not maintained by the developers of P99 nor used as a resource by them, just FYI.

I just came to p99 and, not to be rude, but this is a personal problem. I just took a troll sk from 1-9 w/o grouping once in the swamp.

Like others have said, you're probably still using your starting weapon and little to no armor. The fact is, you can upgrade the rusty weapon drops with sharpening stones. Maces and such for a shaman, though not all blunts can be upgraded this way. As to armor... Netted and Mesh armor drops left and right from frogloks and tads. By lvl 5, barring incredibly bad luck, you should AT LEAST have a full set of netted.

There are quests that give you weapons and raw-hide and patchwork armor. As you get duplicates, sell them and upgrade to leather.

By the time I left I had a decent magic 1hb (8/26 +5str, 2wis, 2int) that someone had sold to a vendor, enough pp to buy a full set of Large Banded armor, full leather armor to wear until I upgraded (just did), and still have 121pp left over.

Innothule is probably the best starting zone in the game imo. You can realistically lvl from 1-50+ w/o ever going more than 2 zones away from your starting city. There aren't a ton of quests, but those that are there are useful.

Tip, loot every rusty weapon that drops and use a sharpening stone on it when possible. Many are worth 2-3gp a piece and for a newbie w/ no real expenses, that adds up quite nicely. Better yet, loot everything. Almost all of it sells or has a quest attached to it for exp. Newbie quests are there to help you. Idk why people avoid them like the plague.
