I thought live is f2p now? With an optional sub. What does that sub do for you? I'd guess he is able to acquire any cash shop perks he needs by farming with is 24 frees accounts.

TLP servers require a subscription. Big time streamers/ boxers like this guy farm up coin or whatever for kronos, which is a tradeable item that gives you one free month of game time. So, while this neckbeard may have paid 300-400 dollars up front, he's probably sitting on hundreds of kronos now, making RL money via streaming and rmting items/ plat for kronos.

Hate on p99 all you want, but give me a break. The TLP servers are a joke. At that point you're not even playing EQ any more, it's just another mmo you exploit for RL cash. Nilbog summarizes it well: "Heresy."

You use RL money to purchase Kronos in the in-game store. They're a consumable item that gives you one month of access. People use them as currency on the server because platinum was worthless almost immediately due to the aforementioned single-man-killing-the-dragon-with-24-boxes disease.

The krono are also regularly traded at a steep discount on ebay and other sites. Buying from the DBG store ~17.99 each. secondary markets are ~$8.

People buy kronos from RMTs, RMTs use their 24box armies to farm literally all of the available loot. RMTs then sell the loot back to players for kronos.

I quit lockjaw 2-3 weeks after launch because it became clear that not only was DBG going to do nothing to stop this pay to win silliness, but they actually profited from it. Kronos cost more than subs. A person who 24 boxes and RMTs for Kronos generates 432/month for DBG. A person who 24 boxes with regular subs only generates a max of 360/month.

They're happy to split their profits with RMTers.

I argued, on the boards, for DBG to put in game real dollar loot purchases. This way DBG could capture all of the money available for the RMT and would disincentivize loot farmers.

People who wanted to play the game would have a game to play. People who wanted to pay to win would be able to do that.

I was shouted down and now casuals are left only with pay to win.

They do a terrible job of listening to their fan base. Great for P99 though, for anyone who actually wants to play EQ.

It actually made me wonder if DBG staff were supplementing their own income by participating in RMT.

They were in a perfect position to do so. They have all of the background data necessary to build the perfect RMT machine. When confronted with options on how to design the server, in literally every case they chose the option that would benefit an RMTer.

lol thats a good point - and worthy of a post if theres a community reddit for the TLP servers.

at worst it'll just give more of the player base some ideas and either everyone will start doing it and/or they'll have to change something.
