HOWEVER... Mouse inputs are absolutely more responsive than keyboard inputs. You can hit a mouse input faster than a keyboard input due to the effort required to press the key. As for 'steering' your character? The only thing that you might run into is missed autoattacks due to the vector of your character on your screen versus the vector of your character on the server. The client only sends a limited number of update packets, so what you're seeing versus what the server sees is not always correct - this leads to missed autoattacks, and the 'timer' will reset. Never will it actually slow down the attack, but if you're not facing the target, you can miss an autoattack round entirely.
