I recall a post about this years ago - there is a program that can find the specific thunder.wav file -- you can delete it or change it to any .wav you want.

I guess I'm in the minority here because I love the rain in the game. I remember playing EQ when rainstorms were occurring irl (few times even typhoons when I was in Japan) and it just added to the immersion for me.
