Yeah, early days of PoP the ideal 'solo' situation for charmers was to find a really bored tradeskiller/roleplayer/friend and 'duo' with them in places like Plane of Nightmare.

The second player sitting there doing nothing (literally nothing) caused the pet to not steal any XP, and so the xp rate was higher due to the pet not stealing xp and the small group bonus.

The link I posted has evidence that directly contradicts this.

Pets ate a share of xp. All pets, if they did 51% of damage, whether in group or solo. Solo the share was 50% of xp, and in group the pet took a share as if the group had an extra member.

They nerfed it simply due to the extreme xp/hour and DPS of charmed mobs.

The XP share was so small that it really was the most efficient way to 'solo'

Maybe on p99. But in classic, we are talking about 50% vs 33%. An improvement but still a significant penalty.

There were people talking about pets stealing XP right after EQ launch, I dug them up before. It has always been the case that they've stolen XP.
