Bards are fun. I recommend them if you like variety but only have time to play one character. Sometimes barding is manasonging...sometimes it's edge-of-the-seat CCing...sometimes it's the pulling mini-game. This class will occupy the active mind.
Clerics are also fun! Healing can be intense. There's also a good amount of downtime for chatting and browsing the Wiki or the Tunnelquest discord. And if you think they can only heal and buff, hoo boy...they have other spells too.

Enchanter or shaman fit what you’re looking for. Enchanter is harder to play well, so perhaps shaman.

I’d recommend enchanter as I think it’s the best fit for your young (elastic) brain and will play more like a modern mmo speed and fun wise.
Enchanter has major upside but can be a very stressful class, in that if you have a pet charmed you’re always on and can’t walk away for a break. However charming gives you incredible power and best DPS in the game. This can be used in group or solo you’ll have a charmed, hasted pet with a torch so that it quads (dual worlds and double attacks for 4 hits per round) tearing up anything you come across. Solo is a bit different but there are good videos on the strategy. You’ll also have huge group utility in that your mana regenerating and attack speed (haste) buffs are the best in the game. You also can do the best crowd control and slow monsters attacks. I think enchanter will feel most like more modern games in the fast pace and tools. Just remember this game doesn’t have the efficiency of some of the new ones in the UI space, so you will need to do weird things like open your spell book mid combat to grab a different spell. Just part of the challenge and skill you’ll need to develop. Don’t forget to spend time exploring and talking with NPCs, reading books, completing quests. Talk to other players! Ask them what they’re doing, see if they’ll group. This game will not compare to some you’ve probably played in the game play arena, but has more depth and lore than anything that has come sense. The culture on both servers is amazing people love to teach and share, especially if your new to the game. Take your time at low levels. You will be weak and struggle. You will feel the fear of really losing something, and you will feel kinship and come together with others to conquer these fears.

Clerics are undead wizards too. It may not be quick solo but if you just aren't feeling that group vibe or only have an hour session to play, there's usually something in range to go and sit/camp/nuke at [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

First, there is no such thing as a true support class in EQ. Every class has a general role they play in grouping.
The chance you stick with your first picked class for the long haul is virtually zero. Right now you don't know what you mean by support most likely, and certainly none of us know what you mean. I would recommend you play a druid up to at least 19 for ports. This character will be useful to all your other characters as a delivery/errand boy of sorts. They are a better support class in those levels than any other class in the game, too (but it doesn't stay that way). After 19 and you have better understanding of how EQ works/plays you will have a better idea what you might want to stick to for the long haul. Then decide(and perhaps ask again in the forum), but not now.
