You kinda could stop account sharing if there were some system where you had like 3 ips that could be "registered" to an account, and if there's ever a 4th all of them are randomly shut out for a random amount of time, up to some limit. This would prevent the cheesefest cleric/coth bots but still protect people who legitimately share accounts for whatever reason.
I don't see why zero account sharing shouldn't be on the table.

Well two reasons: 1) account sharing was never against the rules on live, and 2) it's nearly impossible to actually enforce without tons of headaches for both players and staff.

zero account sharing and only two character slots would be ideal but by the time people are making rogue and wizard alts to park places peak fun raiding and server health is already over and you need a new box

You would think a free-to-play emulator project would entertain the notion where servers and/or characters end, but apparently, that just really breaks the brain for too many people.

What is it that is feared? And what is it that is lost?

Alas, do any of us know?

Could we?

Would we?

it was a hard time of the year, someone having a fucking melty in rl is more important than ruining 100 other people logged in and playing.

There’s literally zero resemblance to live raiding here, due to the headaches it’s caused for years for players and staff, so we’ve already crossed that Rubicon. Fix account sharing and suddenly your raid drama workload is magnitudes lighter.

I don't see how you would prove account sharing though. I don't like it either, but seems like the only way to prevent it is to say you have to log in from the same IP every single time. Which either means people can't play P99 unless they're on the first IP that ever logged into the account, or they just get a VPN that provides a static IP and give it out to everyone.
