Last night I watched the Departed (again) I really like that movie.

But per some of our earlier convos and hong kong.. did you know it's a re-make of a (legendary at its time) hong kong movie Infernal Affairs?

I personally prefer the departed over infernal affairs, I think culturally its more relevant to me, and it's also an extremely polished movie. Like, I reckon that Infernal Affairs had to "invent" this story.

But the departed got to take all that work and "perfect" it.. which IMO they did. But.. both are excellent, and I recommend both bigly.

I think the funniest thing is how Matt Daymon and Leo goes through a particularly "Chinese" style education system... that doesn't look anything like ours, but looks very much like their culture lol.

No way our police officers are that disciplined during training. No way. No shot.

Remember this classic? One of my favorite all time Pete Holmes skits. Makes me miss the glorious 90’s where no one would bat an eye at this type of humor

(And the actress is soooooo damn hot…)

Departed was great. (Edit: spoilers ahead, sorry this is your warning) Even though he’s a narcissistic manipulative douchebag, I actually liked when Matt Damon’s char turned on Jack’s char

The last thing he said as he gunned him down was “RAT PRICK!” And it’s true. He’s just following the code. Jack’s char was technically a snitch, even if he was a mafia boss, snitches get stitches

Oh the only thing that was a logic gap for me was Leo’s char was set up to be too intelligent to stupidly leave out the envelope labeled “citizens” from its original spot on Matt’s char’s desk. This tipped off Matt Damon’s char that Leo’s char had seen it, which prompted Matt to go delete Leo from the database

The obvious smart play was leave the envelop exactly where it was, play dumb and finish dealings with Matt, then bust him

Incredibly stupid high school level planning to move that envelope

Yeah Departed's characters were just perfection. So deep. So awesome. Both of the characters are similar in IA but.. I think they were perfected in the departed.

I do have to call out the scene, where Matt Daymon says the name of the movie like almost directly looking into the camera... that should have been cut.

"What's his name... *turns to camera* tHe DepArTed!?"

Mark Wahlberg's character is one of my favorite characters ever written, and I have never heard of any other character like him in anything else.
