I don't even see SoD on the server list for eqemu...don't they use a different setup or something? I played there years ago before P99 was even thought of, wasn't bad, but wasn't worth sticking with.

Yeah they have a special patcher and instructions , much like this site. Its a good game , but the boxing really destroys it IMO. If it had no boxing and the expansion (Which they just released) didn't come out. It would be a solid game. Regardless project1999 is much better in my opinion. I believe I and others would enjoy project1999 a lot more if it was rebooted back to classic and everyones accounts wiped clean. The first month or so I imagine would be chaotic , but after it would feel fresh again. This time with way less bugs , more population etc , but thats just my two cents.

the new expansion for SoD is actually quite good. the quests are a bit of a grind though, probably more effort than epic quests in kunark. The strats for a lot of the top end content are ingenious and innovative. i played there for 4 years before losing interest due to rl. keep in mind i played classic eq before SoD, so for me, SoD is the only other game other than classic that could keep my attention for more than a month

and you can only two box....I actually never boxed till i played SoD, and i am glad i picked it up, it's a good crutch. often misused, and I can see how it would "ruin immersion", but i personally enjoy it

It's been around longer than any other eqemu server I can think of, because the development team is so fucking talented. They actually took the core engine of EQ and made it technically much better than it ever was. However, there are a lot of problems with the server as well, and if you can't devote every waking hour of your life to it, you're eventually going to reach a point where you can't really progress much further. And unfortunately that points comes like 20% into your possible growth. Once you ding 65 (which takes some time to begin with), it's a long, long, LONG AA/gear/quest/etc grind until any raiding guild will even notice you. If you don't have powerful friends/connections or a lot of dedication, you may be disappointed after a month or two.

The raid content and progression on that single EQemu server is better and deeper than any other MMO ever designed. Unfortunately, only a handful of people will actually get to experience it.
