my guess is that depending on how well EQL does, they may decide to open a P99 classic style server on that same network.

I don't want to turn this post into a Flame section. It seems that there is a coin-flip chance based on who you encounter on these forums that every post will turn out as such.

That being said: From what I understand of the lore of Project 1999 - it was about rebuilding the source code. It wasn't about hosting a new server for thousands of people to enjoy. That was a result of doing a good job recreating the source code. They didn't set out to have a new emu server that would be wildly popular.. they just used EQEmu as a platform to host their experimental project, which wound up being a smash hit.

My 2 cents. Take it or leave it, it doesn't bother me either way. Unsubscribing from the thread, and consider my lesson learned when it comes to posting thoughtful responses.

I think the idea that Nilbog would spend over a decade of his life rebuilding a massively multiplayer online game ... just to put the final version on a shelf where no one can play it, is ... not well thought out.
Nilbog, if you can see this: correct me if I am wrong! But I think you made p99 as a like "thing to do while we wait for eq classic" if I recall. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Is this true?

Speaking of not well thought out, ie: your response.. we are.. playing it. And if you reference my post:
Your post misses the fact that he's still working on it, today.

Not intended as an insult.

The developers here are old. They are not passionate. It's a side hobby at best that makes 0 money for them. In fact probably loses money.

I guess my question as somebody who has played blue almost since launch, then green -left after the first year and came back is why is this even a question? Can't they just tell us either way?

100% there will be a new server. Way to much on going work on bug fixes and patches that have no impact on the current servers for there not to be. We have yet to get a channeling/resists overhaul but we know its actively being worked on and seems to be close to deployable pending additional research/insights. I've long said this is the main thing that needs to occur before a new server will be considered.

The announcement of EQL certainly pushes the timeline out. I wouldn't expect to see a new server for at least 2 years, even if everything is ready to launch just to avoid competition for players between the projects.
