We don't need a temporary exp bonus that quickly creates a gap in player levels. Mid-game pvp is an important element.

20% xp bonus isn't gonna create any gaps, the powergamers who go from 1-50 without eatting sleeping or moving from comp are still gonna get there in 2 days

the 20% xp bonus is just gonna make it about half the regular pace of leveling on a blue server once you add in all the deaths from pvp

These Ross Perot type charts really clarify things.

I'm all for anything that helps a casual gamer compete

NO

Keep it classic. The server only goes up to three expansions, no need to rush to 60.

But thats just it. Its not like on Blue99 when you hit 50 (or 60 when Kunark comes out) things get stale. You then get to CONTINUE PVPING!

(im gonna pause here to let that sink in a bit)

And its not about people wanting to get 50 (or 60) in the first week. Thats going to happen with or without an exp bonus, unless the world runs out of adult sized diapers. Not all of us work part time at Papa Johns and can devout the time necessary to keep entertained with the classic grind. PvP requires a player base (weird isn't it), so keep the player base as high as possible by letting the casual players and bi-curious players from Blue99 to come here without worrying about sinking another 2-3 years of playing time to get to the fun competitive shit-fest that is EQ pvp.

Here we go with the "game dosent begin until max level!" syndrome again.

Thanks WoW, and all the clones that came after you, thanks a lot.

Far from the point. The message you failed to derive from my post was that the game doesn't END at max level. Why slow down the process for the casual players. You're not giving that much of an edge to the basement dweller by adding it in (they will max level within the first two weeks regardless), and this way you don't hinder those of us with outside obligations. Leave the "I spent so much time butt fucking pixels and reaching level 50 (or 60), I'm so glad exp was slow enough for me to fully explore all of the blue content on red99" to blue99.

The basic setup of this server is going to be very different from vztz or other custom red boxes people have played. Or at least thats what I've gathered from reading so far.

Basically heres how shit will work:

Leveling will take a long time. EXP rates on p99 are brutal. They're going to be the same here, with EXP loss on a PVP death meaning there is significant loss and risks anytime you go to fight others. Add that in with EXP loss on mob deaths and the grind to 50 (and 60 after Kunark) will be very time consuming. Does that mean this is a bad thing? No, not really, considering servers where you can hit max level in a week get boring quickly and die out. People obviously want to play on a box where they can level in a week, raid gear themselves then constantly fight each other or gank. That realistically will not be the case here. Most people won't hit 50 for a long time. Which actually isn't bad, because mid 30's and 40's PVP is fun as shit.

Rogean isn't putting YT or leaderboards in sadly, so the emphasis on PVP is that it will be used to handle mob disputes like raid targets. People out there will be rolling in gank squads for either kills on big names or coin, none of these kills will be advertised though and global OOC is going to be removed. However I think Rogean may consider leaving global OOC in if the server population is low enough. I wasn't around to see it, but when p99 had a population hovering around 200-300 global OOC existed on that server.

So if you consider these two conditions, you can basically assume that this will be nothing like the rest of the boxes. You'll level slow, getting pked will mean something at higher levels, and nobody is going to know you killed anyone else unless you're screenshotting it and bringing proof to the boards. PVP on this server will be used as a method to handle raid disputes, or grief. Past boxes it was like one giant arena fight where everyone leveled as fast as possible, geared themselves, then spent the rest of their gaming time on the box just hunting people down or fighting over dragons. People will still fight over dragons, but from what I've gathered PVP is just going to be a way to dispute issues over camps, raid targets, etc. on this server.

Is that a good thing? The fuck if I know. I just want to bind camp Harrison at some point and steal his welfare money.
