They would be able to settle disputes about angry neighbors and that's about it. The people involved retain all of their constitutional rights. So the US government basically gently pats a Sharia judge on the head and sweetly says, "Of course you can play courtroom if you want, but if you go too far, we break your fuckin' knees."
