Or they could put some objects in, like a book on a pedestal, you would click on this and it would take you to a special zone where you could teleport to all the other books in the world.

Honestly man, if I was offering ports and a new player sent me a tell saying he was broke but wanted a port I would have no problem giving him a lift for no charge...I'm pretty sure most other porters would do the same.

Now if you are wearing 200k worth of gear, I'm not asking for a donation...I'm selling you a port for 100pp. If I am porting at all I will advertise that I am selling ports, I even have the server first on the wiki for that one. But see, we all know that "Porting for donations" is the EQ PC way of saying "Selling ports". If you are poor ask for a free port, if they decline you are free to start another thread. I would stick to just name and shaming in RnF...you'll still probably get trolled pretty hard for it though.

Gonna have to disagree with you here. At 55 unless I'm in Seb or soloing some sweet cash camp I'm not making 500p screwing around. In addition, you are highly unlikely to keep your plat donating 100p a port or more.

Your mileage may vary but for most people in xp camps it's not going to be the case.

In the higher level zones/dungeons around max level, most people can waste time taking out easy mobs that often drop high plat vendor items (gems/weapons/jewelry/etc). Selling a few of those or using them to pay for ports is what I generally did.

100p per port never broke me and I've paid much more for ports than that before (in items and plat).

There are plenty of people who went out and did that, kill a few mobs to earn the plat to pay the proper amount for a port. Doing this means that porter will remember you and will be more likely to port you again (go out of their way to do it).

I've had porters drop their group, port to my zone, come to me, group me, port me, then go back to their group and continue playing. Not once did I ever feel like 100p port was difficult to come by when I hit 60.

Fair enough - it's been a long time since I've had a maxed character. At 55 I'm starting to have a much easier time but I still don't think 100p/port is or should be he norm.

I don't mind people charging a fee for doing ports, but calling it a donation isn't correct.
