Yes, given that a large portion of infected will remain asymptomatic, much of the statistical shit you see will be largely bullshit. The only semi-accurate way is to look at antibody rates, and even that might run into some problems with the sample size/pool the information is drawn from.

Heart disease and cancer aren't contagious airborne diseases, but if they were and if there was a simple way to reduce transmission of them, like breathing out of a snorkel, I would hope people would willingly face that inconvenience rather than risk killing their fellow citizens.

So because they're not contagious we shouldn't focus on them as much? I disagree as IMO the societal damage these things do to not only family members but the community at large. The media isn't clamoring all over these things because they haven't yet figured out how to monetize them.

Making soda, alcohol, and cigarettes illegal would legitimately go a long way to reduce disease prevalence, but fats would march armed and maskless because freedom.

BB, I agree that the numbers are looking better but that doesn't answer my question. Why haven't you jumped on the "we need to rage against the cancer or heart disease machine" bandwagon? One family member and four friends have dealt with covid-19. I know many more that have dealt with cancer and even a handful that have had heart attacks. IMO heart attacks and cancer have fucked up more people than covid-19 but because the media hasn't focused on it society as a whole hasn't jumped on the bandwagon. My best man at our wedding had a heart attack about 5 years ago. He took a couple months off work at a time when he was critically needed. He is restricted for the rest of his life from doing anything physically significant such as wrestle with his dog or go salmon fishing.
