If you think the roads are random, you're a noob. If you see a road, you're doing it wrong. Any road, the one you'll likely hit first runs north-south, so turning right and following the road will probably send you in the correct direction, at least until your next Sense Heading pops up.

Unless the first road you see is the one that runs to the east and you think it's the one that goes south.
