The challenge modes are irrelevant because the "heroic" gear (or what used to be heroic gear in previous expansions) drops from the normal dungeons. There's no reason to do challenge modes unless you simply enjoy it, and that has nothing to do with anything. The problem with today's WoW is that nothing ensures that players have met a certain standard by the time their characters are raid-ready. Up until MoP, you had to do heroic dungeons which, while not exactly rocket science, couldn't be farmed properly by a spastic 11yo in quest greens for the wrong spec. You had to at least formulate a decent build and not be completely retarded, and the dungeons were difficult enough that they taught you the basics of gameplay. This is no longer the case, so guilds either get flooded with applications from players that literally aren't good enough at the game to raid, or have increasingly turned into private cliques that will barely speak to you if you aren't RL friends with someone. It has obliterated the WoW community. Challenge modes serve no purpose at all because they don't have meaningful rewards and are not part of the gearing-up process.

WoW lost me when it lost CC in dungeons and when classes were all made the same.

I lost faith in the game when my warlord gear that I'd worked for weeks/months getting (rank grinding) was suddenly being dished out to anyone that wanted it, all because TBC was going to be released a couple of months later. As much as I wanted to play the arenas the people I knew just weren't interested or would play a few games but quit instantly because we lost 2 out of 3.

There's almost no point trying to be "good" at WoW, they just hand good shit out to anyone who can breathe. Doesn't surprise me that millions have dropped the game, especially with the Kung Fu Panda element added (swiping monks from EQ, not cool...making it appealing to even younger kids, not cool... making me feel like I'm too old to be playing the game, not cool) [You must be logged in to view images. I tried ED multiple times. Nostalgia usually wore off in the teens. Only p99 keeps it real enough for me to stick around.
