AA and rehab groups rely on religion a fair amount and there are success stories constantly regarding that.

They absolutely can be.

Don't get me wrong, the negative effects suffered from continued use of 12 step programs are generally not as bad as the negative effects suffered from continued use of alcohol or methamphetamines, but they absolutely can be.

That is a pretty ignorant statement HBB, you obviously have not been around many alcoholics to see how destructive it is.

You're right.

My dad wasn't an abusive blackout drunk. His dad wasn't a blackout drunk. Both of my grandmothers weren't blackout drunks. My 2 aunts weren't alcoholics. My uncle wasn't so full of ludes that they stomach pumped him monthly. My brother wasn't a speedfreak, and neither was his wife, and my ex wasn't so involved with AA that it destroyed her life.
