"DR Congo is estimated to have $24 trillion (equivalent to the combined Gross Domestic Product of Europe and the United States) worth of untapped deposits of raw mineral ores, including the world’s largest reserves of cobalt and significant quantities of the world’s diamonds, gold and copper."

Mining industry of the Democratic Republic of the Congo

It's almost as if someone is enslaving the country and robbing its citizens of vast wealth.

This is why globalization is being pushed so hard. Murder and theft in the guise of free market and enterprise. It has always been this way, just never with a feel good term put on it like Globalization.

On this, we are in complete agreement. Free trade is a trick to turn middle class salaries into offshore slavery.

I doubt many of our peers here in p99 RnF have read a novel told from a single woman's perspective, let alone five.

That's right, I read it and still made a congo joke early on in the thread. Mostly because I am still too jealous of Kingsolver's story-telling to ever feel empathy again.

Shame on you, but get your book out. One guaranteed buyer sitting right here.
