Robocop was decent but they totally missed the gritty feel of the original not to mention the entire movie showed no real motivation (where was the crime and splatter punks etc?) for actually needing cyborg police or robots. New IPs are a big investment/gamble so they just keep rehashing the same crap over and over.

the new shit has to manipulate people's emotions with scenery and music cause "muh immerzun" and people don't know how to write dialogue well anymore. there are some good originals that come out every year, but they usually don't have a good release. seen beasts of the southern wild?

I haven't seen it yet. Hasn't been on my radar. You nailed it about dialog though and coupling that with the talentless hacks that pass for actors now just makes everything stiff (see Jayden Smith or Jennifer Lawrence for example).

i know what you mean about bad actors. lots of them won't take chances anymore, and just stay in safe roles. then when they do they usually suck (see: shia labeouf, james franco, ryan gosling{he can't do more than 500 words in a movie}, and the current crop)

Dialog dialog dialog.
Do you have any idea why the old greats are all dialog? Special effects didn't exist back then. Couple that with the fact that the price of a movie ticket inflation adjusted, was a fraction of what it is today, you need your movies to hit a wider audience if you want to make your money back. Film is a visual medium, since the technology exists to do virtually anything we want with film we should be judging films by how well the directors use their resources to immerse us into the story. There are exceptions of course. LOTR and other movies based on books should be more dialog driven to stay true to their medium of origin, but that's besides the point in this thread as we're talking about a film who's origins are mid budget 50s foreign sci fi turned kaiju beatemups. If you want dialog so badly read a book or at least do yourself a favor and stop watching blockbusters as you clearly don't get the point.
