The Rangers that keep saying they want to parse against monks must be talking about the shittiest monks on the server, or a monk 10 levels below them.

I played a ranger on live from release until 2005 or so. It's a tough class and the Kunark era was the lowest point in the power curve for rangers - there's no denying that.
Further, because it's a "swiss army knife class", it's harder to play than some others. I know I have waaaaaaaaaaaay less room for error on my ranger than I do on my bull shaman. But but but but when an ranger is played exceptionally well, it adds tons to an exp group or a raid. Especially if the ranger is paying attention and thinking and pre-unscrewing potential screwups. They have so many tools for that. And they have many tools for fixing things if they go wrong, too. So...I do understand the ranger hate. But that hate can be mitigated some when an exceptional ranger joins the group. Or, better, when that exceptional ranger leaves the group and everyone looks at each other, remarking on the vacuum that the ranger left. It's a neat class. And it's a ton of fun to play. And gets markedly better on the transition from Kunark to Velious.
