Vex thal mobs had lots of hp, but it had amazing gear for its era and continually remained a gear up zone well through pop and gates.
clickies were decent but the stats weren't on par with PoTime / qvic +

People still raided Vex Thall in the PoP era though, until you hit the elemental planes VT gear was for the most part on par or better.

I didn't hate the zone because the gear, I hated the several hours of trash clears followed by a super boring but easy boss fights that took 40 minutes. You had melees literally going afk during fights while autoattacking to make dinner and shit.

I hated everything about VT. Even getting the fucking key to VT sucked.

Great loot, horrible zone.

VT Key quest was probably one of the most awesome quests in all of eq next to breakdown in communication.

i loved all the camps, i love shit like that.

classic style eq sucks, no progression of any kind, get 60 get a few pieces you want and quit.

AA Points kept people on their mains and online, instead of the cycle of get 60 then repeat almost as if eq is some kind of masochistic punishment tool unemployeds use to punish themselves for sucking at life.

VT not so bad if you had mages parked in certain safe spots with CotH.

Doing the VT key once, not too bad. Doing it many many times over to key your guild was mind numbingly boring.

Same with shissar bane weapons. That got stale fast.

VT key was horrible. It exemplified everything bad about EQ. Zone flagging in PoP and beyond was its own unique pain in the ass, but at least you just earned your way in instead of sitting around for hours killing something every 30 minutes hoping a super rare dude would spawn to get one of several of the key pieces you needed.

Put it this way, if the "challenge" is to do something mind-numbingly boring for hours on end to reap the reward, that is a stupid design.

Hmm I don't even remember that encounter but I think that was while I was retired from EQ.
