I'm not gonna lie - I would like to be a rat. As previously mentioned, they deserve to have evil Clerics for their racial priest selection. I'd also like to see them get Monks for that sweet paw-to-paw combat feeling, but it's a moot point and people will still pick Iksar for the regen anyway.

I like the OP's stat choices - no need to add more to them. The only question I would have is how do the rats in the Hole factor into the lore revision?

I love this idea. Would suggest an innate tracking ability of 50 or 75 that will never level, similar to courage with iksar.

Matter of fact 100 starting swimming and 50 forage sound good too.

Rats can hold their breath for long periods underwater, +50% lung capacity?
I had the racial ability Scent, but I removed it in favor of the faster move speed. One of the most annoying things for tanks and other pullers is not having SOW when they have to pull over long distances, so I figured a race with an innate speed boost would be something to look into.

If Ogres can be immune to frontal stuns, I think a race can be a little faster.

Forage however, I think is too much. Trying to keep it in line with classic races, not Iksar, which got like 10 things. But Iksar are "super evil" but that's still not a good trade off.

-------------------------------
Scent - Natural tracking (50)
Ratmen are natural scavengers and trackers by nature, hunting creatures down for their food and loot with their powerful noses.
-------------------------------

Ultimately didn't add it because less racials would be easier for more people to accept.

I totally understand, but +5/-5 is a direct trade off. And if you think about their genetic background it makes a lot of sense, no?
They do seem like they would get +5 to disease resist, or higher, but less is more when it comes to classic races.

That stung a little.

lol, I just looked at all the available monster races in EQ and what would fit better than Vah Shir.

This was just an idea for like, way down the line, when everyone has consumed all the content 100x over and people are more open to custom content that actually fits classic. Not "OMG SUPER AWESOM DRAGON GOD RACE X100000 STRENGTH!!!1"

And the rats are rare enough that it wouldn't be like trying to add Gnolls or something as a player race.

Zlandi deity obviously. Make it normal "evil" faction and also KoS to Velious factions.

I wasn't sure what that would require. I think just giving them Dark Elf gods fits and giving them Neriak as a starting city helps because no actual custom content would need to be designed for them.

Could restrict them to Veeshan for deity ^^

Yep, briefly considered tracking, actually.

I did write up the racial for the tracking ability, but again, when looking at the classic races, we don't have Iksar to compare things to, so they were getting a little overpowered.

------------------------------------
Scent - Natural tracking (50)
Ratmen have naturally gifted senses of smell, and being the natural scavengers and trackers that they are, they have honed their noses by routinely hunting down creatures for loot, and of course their food.
------------------------------------

Then again, if Ogres can have frontal slam immunity and Trolls can have regeneration and it's not overpowered, maybe Chetari can have a little more.

I was thinking about custom GM events where clockworks were like terminators and the end boss (played by a GM) would drop a clickie illusions Noam clockwork
Funny story, I actually spent some time trying to look at new classic themed classes. Technomancer was one of them, basically a mixture of enchanter and necromancer that summons different clockwork pets at different levels. I didn't get far with it. I don't feel like Beastlord was "classic" in feel, if you know what I mean.

Lol, this is just an idea for like, wayyy down the road after we've all done raids and classic content 100x for so many years. Something to add to EverQuest without actual "custom" content or custom zones, because that's awful. The Chetari work because they can start in Neriak and require no actual custom content.

It would definitely be fun to play a Chetari Rogue, I think. I'll add Cleric to them, but I don't know starting stats yet. I was simply looking at what their classes are in the actual game, and I only found those four. The Ratmen in the hole are a separate group from the ones in Velious, I think. I got the lore from the EverQuest bestiary.

In my made up lore, they are "pretending" to fall in line with the Dark Elves and secretly their Clerics are worshiping Zlandicar.

Some starter stat work. Probably needs some work, lol. They're the Barbarians of Agility.

Starting Stats
  • Cleric: 80 STR / 80 STA / 103 AGI / 90 DEX / 85 WIS / 80 INT / 55 CHA / 30 Bonus Points
  • Necromancer: 75 STR / 75 STA / 103 AGI / 100 DEX / 75 WIS / 90 INT / 55 CHA / 30 Bonus Points
  • Rogue: 75 STR / 75 STA / 113 AGI / 100 DEX / 75 WIS / 80 INT / 55 CHA / 30 Bonus Points
  • Shadow Knight: 85 STR / 80 STA / 103 AGI / 90 DEX / 75 WIS / 90 INT / 55 CHA / 25 Bonus Points
  • Warrior: 85 STR / 85 STA / 107 AGI / 90 DEX / 75 WIS / 80 INT / 55 CHA / 25 Bonus Points

Base stats do not change - they only go up based upon class choice.
If stats increase by a total of 20 – 30 bonus points
If stats increase by a total of 25 – 25 bonus points
If stats increase by a total of 30 – 20 bonus points

Rats shouldn't have faster move speed (well maybe along walls - that was actually a cool idea), but Centaurs should as a playable race.

I love the idea of playable Ratmen, mostly because it fits the idea that Velious should have had it's own race like Kunark did. It's possible that there was something thrown about for Velious that we never knew about, as well.

I'm gonna have to disagree with Zuranthium though, talking about playable Centaur is going too far. Mice definitely scurry with bursts of speed when my cats see them

Anyways there have been some efforts to get armor textures showing on mobs like Frogloks, but there is no way in hell anyone would be able to get armor textures looking normally on Centaur.

Edit:
Found the old pics of the experiments.
