It's really not that bad of a quest if you don't mind the tradeskilling. You can do a few hours here or there to get them where they need to be. As a wizard, that is easier because you can port around. Tailoring sucks, but you don't need to skill up anymore after Wu's becomes trivial (it's easier to farm the components for the shawl again in case there is a failure). Pottery also kind of sucks since you will need skins to make poison vials, but you can buy them in unrest or EC pretty easily

Shawls 1 and 2 are really easy.

Shawl 3 and 4 are also really easy, although snow griffin eggs are somewhat rare.

Shawl 5 sucks, but if you sit around someone camping spiders in Velks and ask to loot the silk threads, it's not so bad. You can quad shardwurms in GD to get bile pretty easily. You can do this while you semi AFK doing other crap.

Shawl 6 also sucks, but the only hard part to get is the siren hairs. They're pretty rare.

Shawl 7 sucks, but everything but the swordfish tooth is droppable. The tooth you can find a druid to help you charm kill the swordfish in SG.

I'd recommend getting 60 first, but you don't need to do the quest all at once. You can farm stuff here and there when you need a break from leveling. I did most of the quest when I was visiting my parents for a week and was bored off my ass.

I'd rather subject myself to another shawl quest than endure any amount of A/A green text, which is something you're going to have to endure if you want a realistic shot at CT/ToV loot on a regular basis.
Its EQ - it takes tons of time to finish quests. The fact that peanut gallery just scoffs and says "pffffffaaaaawgh *excessively snide and obnoxious cuckold neckbeard scoff* - its easier to get other FT items" is incredibly "not classic."

If you want to actually play EQ and not put on the blindfold and swing at the pixel piņata, do the quest. Knock it out here and there as you get your levels, you still have a way to 60.

My shammy is only 28, but I plan on starting it up soon and just working on my tradeskills slowly over time to 60... still probably won't have it done by then lol

Saving for a choker requires me to sit in EC and buy/sell things. I would rather play the game than not play the game

All depends on what you value as personal accomplishments in the game.

For some their only goal is to get 60. For others they want to get as close as they can to BiS. Others only care about being super wealthy. You don't have to worry about luclin being released so there is no "deadline" to getting your shawl. And even if you choose to get into raiding on p99 if you do finish your shawl that's one less item slot you need to worry about upgrading until pretty much your last piece as it is a solid item just takes alot of work

Definitely finish getting 60 and decide how you want to continue from there.... Maybe do some raids figure out if you enjoy it or not and choose how you wish to gear your character

It still best in slot for almost every caster or priest character. Its a matter of opinion based on player and class but for most there are only 1-3 items that could be considered better, and all will be unobtainable to 90% of players.

Example Shaman:

https://wiki.project1999.com/Runed_Coldain_Prayer_Shawl

7ac / wiz / sta / svF / svC / svP Effect: FT1
(because of the FT1 there are only 4 items that could be considered better (not including resist gear))

They are:
quested And Upgraded PoSky quest shoulders,
( https://wiki.project1999.com/Fairy-Hide_Mantle ) (no idea if upgraded version is even available)
and 3 North Tov Drops
( https://wiki.project1999.com/Shawl_of_Perception ) ( https://wiki.project1999.com/Silver_Chains ) ( https://wiki.project1999.com/Viik%60s_Pauldrons_of_Pain )(including tank shoulders from Vulak).

All this means is that the items that are potentially better then Coldian shawl are even more difficult / impossible to obtain.

Last year, a friend of mine invited a couple of us over to his house for an Easter egg hunt.

Turned out he was working on his shawl, and he got us to log onto our dudes to help him look for eggs (we did it and he took us out to a beer festival to celebrate with a round of brews).
