The p99 meta is classes that abuse GCD resets and charm. So you can reverse engineer the classes that aren't meta from here.

I main a Warrior. And while I do love my warrior I have swapped to a guildies Paladin to tank Halls of Testing because at this point in the game / gear level it's faster and more efficient for the slow team not to wait for procs and for the rogues just to lazily go ham obliterating the loot mobs as quickly as possible. And frankly, allowing the raid to freely compete on DPS meters during HoT makes it interesting/fun enough to up participation in a guild where the majority of people already have great gear and you're just grinding HoT to gear-up new recruits. So no, not pointless.

Can't imagine knights tanking flurries. HoT trash? Sure, with 40+ people on a guild night a ranger could tank. If you're doing min/max hot farm (15 players) you're gonna have a war. edit: I digress, in the spirit of the OP you can play any class you want and get a seat at the DKP-for-pixels table.

The best class is the one you'll feel most inclined to log on and play. A level 1 warrior that doesn't progress any further than the character creation screen will never be any better than even the worst paladin.

There is place for any hard working player picking any class. Druids have less use in the raid scene but spot heal and charm in places we never used them for during live. Sk’s likewise a bit under used but still tank a lot of trash.

Paladins willing to quest soulfires are highly sought-after; it takes a B- raid char and pushes it to an A+. Just a matter of you want to keep requesting a dumb click sword to add to your value. Really with free accounts most people have multiple 60’s. Easier to park for raiding or farming. More ideal for a situation. Btw: I too have tanked a flurry with my paladin. When it’s ravaging a raid and someone says to “pick it up”, carpe diem.
