On live I never used trade skill containers as regular storage. Too paranoid about accidentally hitting combine and losing all the contents. Now THAT would be classic.
When I was in the shower earlier I remember when I first started playing on P99 someone suggested that I use medicine bags for storage and I remember thinking what you just said, but I also remember them being small bags that had no capacity really, and scoffed at the notion. I was so confused when I bought them and they were light weight elite backpacks. Like how did I not know this or remember this???

Prob because it was never true classic.

I think the overall approach was fine here, but would've been better if there was a some command you could use on a temporary basis to convert your bags. Kind of a problem for characters camped in dungeons far from a city for example, to log in and suddenly be pretty encumbered by bags and maybe unable to delete them because there's gear in them. Feel like it would be better to say "you can type this command and it will convert your bags" or put the turn in NPC in every dungeon for instance (although I'm not sure how hard this is to code).

IMO everyone over level 50 has the ability to gate or hammer themselves back to civilisation fairly easily.

The only thing really missing is a 'conversion npc' on the hammer hill in OT.
