Well, they are a support class. :P

I only six man so I've never seen the issue with bringing mana, crowd control, slow, mega DPS and loads of xp to the hard working denizens of norrath. Is there a way to make then less soloable without screwing up the party? Maybe just make it so charm pets don't hold aggro at all?

Sounds like a cult. :+P
In 1999 I musta been in a cult as well. Just like a DnD IRL group.
Tank. Chanter. Cleric. Monk. Wiz. Rog. Back then? It was BIS.
Now? Drop wiz and tank for 2 chanters. 2 charm pets FTW and speed to 60.
I'd have never thort to solo for an FBSS or a Mith 2handa. But I did suck at EQ.

Simple: make charm more risky to use, like it was on live.

New servers are the best time to roll group dependent classes, so I would likely start with rogue.

Rogue won't have evade at launch so make friends with a paladin like me!

I was an enchanter on live and level 40+ before clarity was even added to the class. Charming was much riskier for a multitude of reasons, from duration, to it being viable to keep yourself Rune'd, but most importantly the very obviously broken Channeling.

Torching for auto quads is another obvious p99 invention, though I don't think anyone contends that. The memblur rate on Mez is yet another broken thing that isn't even contested - nobody who played back then thinks Mesmerize actually blurred like 50% of the time.

There's other issues too like Pacify, but ultimately all that really matters is Channeling. If we had era appropriate Channeling, Enchanters would be close enough to fixed. I can't think of anything else in this games history, and I've been around for a little bit, to have such a wide breadth of evidence proving it to be broken on p99, but simply ignored.

It would change the game entirely.

I think the argument about "classic" needs to have a focused definition. We're fluctuating between what IS classic and what FEELS classic. Some of us want original eq so we can dominate the game that kicked our teenage asses and some of us want a game that feels as difficult and rewarding as original eq did even with all of our extensive knowledge of exploitable features and min/max moneyballing statistics.

Maybe this is the line that needs to be drawn between the two servers.
