Neither of those are what she majored in...

I guess if the link tralina linked is right, then that is not bad. I mean 80k is a good salary and 60k aint bad at all which is what she will probably end up making. Though that link said after 14 years, in which case 60k isn't really that good. "43 years old and has been in the planning field for 14 years."

Still to me it seems like a fluff degree. What actual technical skills were learned? Planning and Design of what? like where to place solar panels or something. Seems like a weak version of an engineer or architect...

But grats on graduating anyway, most of the stuff you learn in undergrad is largely useless anyway and does not determine your success in the future

Technical skills include knowledge of GIS software (Map making), AutoCAD, Adobe InDesign/Photoshop, and Google SketchUp.

A lot of the UNM Alumni with this degree have gone on to work for the city. They've typically ended up doing stuff like this. The big project (Which I hope to get in on once I'm out of school) is the Mesa Del Sol project (Get down to page 15 or so before the cool stuff shows up). Pretty much creating a 'sub city' the size San Francisco into an undeveloped corner of Albuquerque. Neat stuff~

A lot of my degree deals with policy - Land use, public law, etc etc. I'm more interested in the design factor than that side of it, but I suppose I will have to be pretty knowledgeable on both.

Your degree is useless until you get a job relating to it. Until then, good luck.
