pop is low because staff have basically ignored the server since launch and most of the problems that have plagued the server since beta persist.

every week population declines by 25ish players during primetime and those who already have chars are not motivated to invest any further time into them due to seeing zero dev attention and a constantly waning population, as an exampled 10 of the 14 in my guild no longer play because of this.

in a few weeks if population has not picked up or at least some influx of dev attention i will also be hanging up my hat and going back to ipy2 where there are still 800 - 1200 on a night and a large sweeping patch is about to be released.

global ooc, leaderboards, accelerated xp among others were all sorely needed on day one of the server, now even if they are implemented it may be to late.
cool story bro

its not as bad as people make it out to be. lower levels are slow but not non-existent, you just have to put a little legwork in to find groups in the lower levels.

Yes you can do it. Don't make a class you can't solo with. Make friends fast.
^^^

also, half the reason for the low pop is these forums, people are incredibly negative in here, but then turn (mostly) into reasonable people once you meet them ingame.

Dont be discouraged by that, log on give it a try. That said, pop IS low, so being able to solo at least some of the time will be a big advantage, and as a shamy you ll be fine.

Im sure its doable, but I personally have gotten sick of it. Imagine having to play with the same 100 assholes over and over and over, and the population is going to keep getting smaller, its not getting bigger. I think the people who are left are primarily VZTZers and there is still a lot of sploiting going on. Not too enjoyable for the casual gamer who isn't willing to spend 12 hours every day securing their spot. In the end I think maybe the only people left will be Nihilum PVEing in raid encounters. EQ will never be like it used to be unfortunately, with 1000s of people on a single server at prime times. RIP RZ 2002, those were the days!

Darworth is spot on. I have not logged on in days because it is impossible to find a group and the last two guilds I were in went to star wars. Waiting for guild wars 2 or diablo 3.

*EDIT* forgot why i quoted this post: I quoted this post because i wanted to say that if there is exploiting going on - no one reports it. there are at least no major exploits that i know of. (first person who brings up the dragons gets tazed)

1. all of you quit trolling and trying to scare new players away.

2. Quit saying no one cares or you are going to piss me off and instead of seeing what i can do to cater to your community and making things more fun for you I will find other ways to spend my time.

3. Stop talking shit about the staff (Rogean, Nilbog, Me, Programmers, Guides)

4. stop the wipe it clean/burn it down bullshit. We don't want your deconstructive criticism- if you aren't happy then open a constructive dialogue about it or shut the fuck up. if you don't like it find somewhere else to play and do it silently.

To the OP:

There are any number of reasons why population went down - what it amounts to though is several groups of people are unhappy about X and chose to leave rather than trying in a constructive manner to get it changed.

I am the server GM and im actively working to help improve population. Unfortunately some of these individuals don't appreciate that.

...
VZTZ was certainly not more popular than red99. Even when it had 300 or so people it was mostly mutli boxers. I'm sorry but you're just flat out wrong about this.

Anyone complaining about the server being ignored by the staff is an ungrateful moron who is ignorant of eqemu history. In comparison to any other red server that's been up, red99 is by far the most well-coded and well taken care of. Issues that plagued other red servers for their whole existence (pathing, cheat programs, spells file exploits, bard mechanics not functioning at all, various other glaring bugs/exploits/etc.) were fixed on this server from the very beginning because it was based off of blue99 code.

edit: as for raid mobs being exploited, uh, welcome to every red box that's ever existed. Do you really think those 40 pop servers like VZTZ ever killed raid bosses legitimately? I seem to remember a story about a server first VS kill being done by attacking him through a wall to avoid his lifetaps. At least on this server there is some effort to fix the problem and punish exploiters.

1) do not think they are trolling I believe they are frustrated by the lack of attempt to stimulate population. GM's barely acknowledge any thread that tries to give constructive feedback, the GMs just respond to the obvious trolls and ignore the people actually trying to help

2) It is hard to say anyone cares when it takes forever for stuff to get changed/fixed/implemented. In beta there were bugs that were reported and they are still in game. Necro dots not showing an icon in pvp is just one example.

3) Stop always irrationally protecting the staff. Sometimes the staff need to be criticized when they are slacking off. Do not try to use the " this is a free server". It is free but if your not going to try to fix shit and make the game better thats fine then just tell us that so we dont waste your time and our time. Dont treat us like shit because you guys decided you wanted to create a free eq classic pvp server and then throw it in our face when the project you took upon yourself needs work.

4) i agree on the wipe comments but imo whats worth than wipe comments is seeing that raid mobs were exploited and GMs know it and the gear is still in game. No one expect changes every day but id say at least once a month would be a reasonable expectation to see a patch or something

Looks like using a doorway to somehow exploit line if sight in a way that allows you to attack but avoid getting hit by AE's?

Want to explain this one Nihilum?
