That depends what you are tanking. Group content: you want a hybrid (PAL/SHD), because they can snap aggro so your DPS are not getting hit and can lay into a mob ASAP. Raid targets, you want a warrior so he can use Defensive discipline. For the leveling game, hybrids make better tanks than warriors, for the end-game, warriors are bar-none the best tank simply due to Defensive.
Could you inform me of more end game the role of a pally? Especially raiding.

Tank: Offtank/add pickup/"protect the clothies"
CR: If 59, toss a 90% rez at those willing to take them, maybe you camped out at the call but none of the clerics did, so use that rez!
Heal: Heal a DPS group (this should get easier when pallies get group heal in Velious) (if a DPS gets focused, he's toast no matter who tries to heal, so this is just to keep them up against the periodic AE damage)
DPS: Equip a 2H, start praying to Brell/Mithaniel/Tunare that you outdamage the Enchanters. Make sure you bash/push mobs as necessary to cancel casting
Buff: You have Naltron and the resist buffs, don't be afraid to use them
Pull: You have lull, don't be afraid to use it

There's tons of things Pallies can do with their spell/ability toolkit. And I've seen my guild use pallies in ways I never would have thought of when I had a main pally on Live. Just because a class isn't "optimum" for a task, does not mean that player cannot complete that task, it just might take some outside-the-box thinking.

Just note that you will probably not be called on to tank the rampaging Spiroc Lord or Vindicator (Velious), although if your guild has those mobs on farm, you might get called into duty there even.

TL;DR: Don't be afraid to try new things, and always be willing to try to use your entire spell list, not just the 8 you always keep memmed.

A Pally really is not that great at DPS. Solo they are pretty slow except to un-dead. But most Tanks really aren't, even a Warrior. Tanks are meat puppets to have mobs beat on them mostly and keep mobs off the healer and casters. A Pally is better at agro than a Warrior in this game now. Taunt really does't work well.

A Pally is better at pulling in Velious when it comes out than even a Monk at times. But if the mob resists Lull line a lot than Pally is not much good. The worse part is the Hybrid penality at 40%. It effects your group also. So a lot of people don't want Hybrids in their group. Pally's are the worse class in P1999 for people giving up on them.

The main problem is your friends will all be level 50 and you will be level 37 or so. So you can't group with them. A Tank has to be the highest person in a group to be good. They can't hit Red mobs to them to save their ass. So DPS goes to shit and so does agro and so the Cleric and Chanter dies. And then you are a no good horses ass.

A Pally on paper is a great class, but not on this server at the time. GL. And on Raids if you are not a Ogre Warrior you are not going to be the Tank. No way. It is the Frontal Stun immunity and usually just better AC and Sta stats that will dicitate them as the best.

But don't get me wrong. I have been as big a complainer of the STUPID HYBRID XP penality on here as anyone. That to me is one of the biggest problems on P1999. There are no damn Tanks at lower to mid levels on here. And God help you if you want to play a Tank on the Red Server. So yes stick it out on your Pally for the good of the server lol.

There are a lot of beggar threads for some reason.

There were tons of beggars on live during 1999 too so I guess it's faithful to the experience, Lol.

Not sure what you're getting at here. I did not ask to get these items handed to me. I'm geyting sick of being called a beggar.

That is partially true and only applies to warriors.

Paladin / SK agro doesn't depend on melee damage anyway. If a Knight class wants agro, they will have agro unless you start blowing malet charges on a mob (or actively try to contest agro as an enchanter/shaman anyway).

Spell agro will guarantee a mob will stay on the knight class for the biggest part. Melee dmg / weapon-spell procs just make it a little bit easier.

And last but not least, agro management in a group isn't entirely a tanks responsibility.

Simply put nowadays, people cba and just root-tank anyway. That's why you see monks filling up tank spots in groups. Just the fact that they can fill in those shoes, it doesn't mean it's the best group-role for them.
