Cost of living now seems high with inflation and the rent/housing bubble. But even when I was a teen/young adult, it was generally understood that the only chance in hell you had in making ends meet on a full time retail or food service wage was to either be living with your parents still, or if that wasn’t an option than with at least 2 other young adults all splitting rent 3+ ways
Which was easier to do back then because most people generally have the most amount of potential friends during their younger years and it seems increasingly harder to make friends the older we get. My first roommate ever was a co-worker who worked at sports authority with me, we went in 3ways on an apartment in a shithole part of town. It wasn’t great, but that was also partly due to their lifestyle at the time being very unhealthy
