![]() Reading Jingleson's treatment of people employed in service fields makes me sad. Just wanted to say that. Some people are sad.

OP states "Now I realize it's common courtesy to tip someone..." and that if they don't "It's extremely petty and tacky ...". Later he says that if someone asks for this "common courtesy" that he will give them 1cp. So what does this make him, in his own words? Tipping 1cp for any port is like saying, "Your service was terrible". Same as leaving a penny on the table for the waitress after eating at a restaurant. I actually did that once. The waitress let us wait forever and finally curtly took our order. In just a couple minutes, she came back and told us she was taking a break and if we needed anything to ask Waitress B. Waitress B came to introduce herself, was friendly, delivered our food promptly, asked if we needed anything else and checked back a few times to make sure everything was ok and we didn't need anything else. When we were done eating, Waitress A finally came with our bill, still not the least bit friendly. So yes, when we left, I put a penny on the table and stopped Waitress B on the way out and handed her a nice tip. Then Waitress A chased us into the parking lot, beating on the car window, ending with cussing at us as we drove away. Oh well. Anyway, sorry, back to porting. I, for one, have never even so much as mentioned payment when offering ports in /ooc. But this is my choice of how I spend my time in Norrath, if I am not porting atm, I'll politely tell you so too. With that said, ports are not exactly "technically a free service from most people" as the OP stated. I admit that seeing people /ooc "Ports 100p" does seem a bit extreme, but it's their time and basically their choice. To each his own. ***Refusing the 5p donation from the level 7 in a cloth robe and accepting the 50p from the level 1 who is obviously a twink. ***Taking the guy on the CR to BB when he was left behind as 3 other people who were offering payment for a port to the SAME DAMNED ZONE found ports. (I could make an entire thread/rant on this one myself.) ***Wishing the level 50+ Safe Travels after the 10p donation with no explanation after doing a port + evac. Again, all personal choice. Do I get irritated with people at times? Occasionally, but generally I choose to keep it to myself, it's just not worth it. Sorry for such a long post, but that's part of my 2cp worth. And to the OP, Safe Travels and Good Hunting ... But that still doesn't mean you aren't being a jerk.
