It used to be super common back in the Stickam / Tinychat days

I knew someone it happened to and they never showed their face again

I couldnt imagine how someone would be so stupid, and then I found myself getting drunk, passing out, and then waking up the next day wi thout even realizing my webcam was streaming to a live audience in another tab

I never did anything like that, but I do remember having a close call where I just barely caught it in time

Not really, that era was a big part of my online persona, to the point where they actually made digital items representing some of the items myself and a few of my colleagues used to wear on those streams. About 90% of my online friend-base discovered me through that community, so it's a regular topic and something I have a lot of experience with.

also funny story, one time wokecat had his webcam on for like 30 minutes in vc and no one said anything because it was pointed behind at the wall like whatevs, eventually i was like "btw ur cam has been on for ages" he wasl ike "ur trolling me" and we were like no fr and he wasl ike "i fucking hate yall" LOL
