SOE literally just released an MMO; Planetside 2. They just had a chance to innovate, take substantial risks, or deviate from the status quo MMO. They didn't. They released a re-skinned and tweaked Planetside 1. Why is anyone convinced EQ Next will be any different?

How would you explain to a boardroom full of MBA's that the key to a quality Everquest reboot entails a step away from the casual mechanics that they likely still believe actually attract casual players?

The second coming of MMO Jesus Christ isn't going to come from an established gaming company, but from an indie developer or startup company that has the clarity of purpose and industry acumen to release something new and fun.
I will "hope" Bethesda and Zenimax prove you wrong. But, I won't hope too hard [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

I agree with you 100% that we can't get hyped for this game with out knowing who it caters too (not us)

But, I like and play Planetside 2 and it has the One of the best f2p systems out there.

Thing im sketch about is they mentioned something about an EQN release this year... but we know nothing about it but buzz words. Also, the earliest planned info release is august. When is Beta starting?

Beta is starting right after soe release info in August.
They already have a playable internal build.
Game uses the same engine as Planetside.

I could go over all the shit he said to me but it was all random buzz words.

"what would you say to a game in that you never do the same thing twice"

He says he doesn't like über guilds that monopolize all the end game content but he doesn't like instances.

Humans gnomes and elves are in the game.

You can tell how good a player is by looking at his armor.

Kronos will be in it to deter RMT.

He said the backbone of the game will be its tradeskillers not because of tradeskills in general but because of the type of people that trade skilling attracts (what does that mean)

He wants a game that will be a home base for players where if a new mmo comes out they leave play it for six months and come back to eq because it is there long time game.

He doesn't want a peaked high population he wants a consistent long term population.

No class info yet
There still don't know what to do about dying.

They want a game that attracts casuals in a way that is not raiding so raiders can raid and casuals can...casual.

Player constructed housing using multiple tradeskills with specializations. Like vanguard.

So you're saying TMO isn't playing then.

What server? I play Matherson TR w/ The Enclave since beta. It's a fun game for sure, but their Free/Pay to play system sucks dick. The game is over saturated w/ shit guns and there is and will constantly be shit you pay for, membership or not.

EQ Next is a long ways off still.

I think people seem to not realize that by wanting a classic EQ-like MMO, that they are in the minority of gamers.

Almost nobody in this thread is going to be happy with whatever SoE releases next, because ultimately we are no longer their target audience or customer base.

Those "WoW kiddies" that enjoy "Easy-mode" and "crap games" are.

There is no "next EverQuest", the genre, players, and companies have all evolved and it's most likely not going backwards. That's why we all play and talk about this 14 year old shit.
