Can't wait for a game that combines the permadeath with heirs and maybe strongholds so that players / guilds could stockpile, kinda like the real world has always worked. Add totally unrestricted PvP and full loot, not just pc but npc. Imagine players die to a dragon and his treasure pile gets bigger. A clan or orcs raids a stronghold to increase their own treasure horde. Wait a minute that sounds too much like a role playing game, I must be nutz... I'd pay 30 a month to play that kind of MMO if there were no micro transactions. I am sure at least 5 others would too.

On the actual topic of this thread, one has only to read the forums for a couple years as I have to see many good reasons for a wipe, not even counting the good points made here on bugs and exploits.
I remember when people swore they would never ever stop playing EQ because of the hundreds of hours, then later thousands of hours of their life they put into it. Some people stay in a bad marriage forever, cause they are afraid to let go. Too much of their life invested in it. I don't support a wipe, I don't want to force anyone to do anything. But if a new server was released, if it was as simple as creating a new instance of software like SQL server for example, the. I would gladly play and donate for server costs. Many others would too. I also think that many people who have given up on P99 would come back and play. I never heard a good reason against a new server. Has it been contemplated but there were no volunteers to work on dev and donate so that it would be no extra effort for current developers? I think a lot of people are flat against the idea cause they would lonely on the old stale blue with their stable of geared lvl 60's. Even if I did not want to play a fresh new classic eq server, I would not be so ... Almost hostile against the idea for others to have fun on. Now I can already hear people say, go make your own emu! Play the other Emu! Take a deep breath and think before you say that. I believe the devs and volunteers here have made an awesome thing and think it foolish to try to start over and recreate the wheel. In the end it's thier server to with as they please and players are free to play or not to play. I think everyone realizes that but please save you fingers. Unless you really enjoy spewing the same stuff without reasonable discussion on a topic, in that case feel free to continue. I can easily scroll past to the good reading on both sides of the topic. For now I am just eagerly awaiting the possibly of a teams PvP server at some point in the future and will make a point to free up 10-20 hours a week to help test, even though my life seldom allows me to spend that much time playing games these days. ps I have really enjoyed my time playing p99 blue and now red and am most thankful for all who have made that possible no matter what the future holds.

It should not be hard to figure out why a straight up wipe, would be not just unfair, but really bad gm'ing. I would note some of those saying to wipe have accounts full of 60's. Sure, they have already "beat" this server, a wipe might be fun.
What about the players just hitting 50 on their first tune? Or the players who just got their eipic? or..... do I really have to list how many ways a server wipe would be truly bad? Keep in mind, those examples a re a significant chunk of your currenjt active players. Not the lvl 60's resting in long term parking saying, yeah, wipe it, i'm bored with it anyway. Try to see outside the bubble, Heathers. Solution: just wipe the accounts created during the classic era. If you found p99 after kunark, you are safe. Kill the old ones.

I was thinking more about a second server. He greatest argument against one would be dilution/migration of population especially if launched concurrently with Velious. However I think it would truly be a boon unto the community as a whole.
We'd see many players return: the bored, disillusioned and burned out as well as fresh blood. Some would return to roll on the new server, some to play in the snow and others to resume less congested pre-Veluous endgame as players migrated to Velious content or the new server in a race to dominate the old world again. There would be a shift in the current player base, but I don't think we'd lose more than 1/3 of current blue pop to a new server. Many would remain for Velious content and as many or more would remain to experience less congested old world content with their established characters. We'd still see new players here as some players would be more eager to experience Velious or prefer the dynamics of a matured server economy/population. Wipe would suck and I'd probably be done. New server, I'd probably play both ^^

But damn. I am having a hard time imagining anything more hardcore than a permadeath classic eq server. Only problem would be, what happens to any kind of rez spell? Maybe modify it so you get "revived" as a lvl 5 or something with a cracked staff. Damn that would be a tough server. How far would we even get? Guilds would have to travel in packs and develop a system to make sure no one dies if at all possible: evacers in every grp, and so forth. edit: this would solve the raiding problem of classic eq btw. Guilds would rather not engage an encounter, than risk deleveling amd gear stripping a quarter of their players to lvl 1. Mobs would stay up until people had their execution methods down to a T. One would not stroll into a raid encounter. Good lord know I am actually thinking about how to play on such a beast. Damn you iruinedyourday, you sure did.
