Having spent about 2 of the last 24 months in Japan (Tokyo specifically); horrifying anime is not Japanese culture. At least not "normal" Japanese culture. They look down on their nerds much more intensely than we look down on our nerds, at least in my experience.

You can pretend that animation and games and tech culture have nothing to do with polite "normal" Jap culture, but every city-sized area in Japan is filled with figurine shops, sex shops, tech shops on every corner to the point it's ridiculous. Even the smaller villages have those painted figurine shops all over the place. I agree that there's a weird stigma attached to being an otaku fag, but that has a lot to do with Jap pride and not wanting to be perceived by foreigners as a cheap consumerist bazinganerd culture when indeed that is not all there is to it.
any of you non-weebs who have never played a good hentai game don't even know what it is that you're missing. Japs are 100000x more advanced in the field of simulated sexual interaction than you could even imagine if you haven't experienced it, let alone compared with similar entertainment in the West. I don't think you can write off the Jap's ridiculous extreme supremacy in the realm of forced insect oviposition hentai games as totally independent of Japanese culture. There's a reason equivalent things don't exist in baka gaijin culture.
