I don't think Chardok or Seb AE happened much if at all before Luclin on live. If it did it was probably marginal at best.

Expansions rolled out quickly back then and people might think there were AE'ing 'dok in Velious or earlier while actually it was Luclin or even PoP already.

Oh, with him it's salt I'm sure.

Show me an example of someone, in 1999-2003 era, that was able to pull the crap we saw in chardok or bard swarms and I might agree with you.

No, the hard limit was not in classic, but the result is decidedly more classic than without. Back in those days, no one could have swarms of 100+. Due to PC/server performance, network bandwidth, etc.

A more classic solution probably would have been to start artificially lagging people when they hit more than 25 mobs.
Not even just this. People say it could happen in classic, and maybe it did at isolated periods. I personally remember aoeing most of Lower Guk a couple of times. Probably was more than 25 mobs.

Reliably enough to establish a cartel extracting cash for proxy pulls in Chardok? Nope.

People have been able to come up with all sorts of "yaaaas it could" stories, but it's clear that even if it could happen at isolated times in this era given the proper combination of machine and circumstance, it couldn't happen regularly.

The "artificial lag" solution is probably "most classic", with some rng attached to determine the current value of "Classic ISP X" applied as a variable to the size of the pull, but if you're really at that point you're picking some pretty tiny nits.

Something I long argued for during Kunark was implementing an anti-Zerg mechanic for P99. For mobs whose hate list exceeds 30, have the mob arbitrarily choose 1 player and mez them for 5 minutes to simulate an LD player. When you're in the 40+ entity realm have the boss "LD" 3-4 random people. When you're rolling deep with 60+ nerds on some Kunark content, "LD" 6-10 random people.

Man it would increase my immersion to all of a sudden lose my groups healer because of an "LD". Having a wipe due to 3-4 clerics all going LD simultaneously is such a classic experience that doesn't really happen here sadly.

Please don't, I already lag when I hit 20+ mobs...

Needing help with transfers is definitely classic. As are EC scams of all kinds. I'm sad they had to stop the casinos.

Just throwing my 2 cents in on a subject that has already been derailed haha, 1 AE kiting was a thing bards used to do it for Fear to clear the zone now how many they could handle is up for debate. 2 Finding a video of such footage from 16 years ago pretty rough considering youtube didn't exist. 3 What i really would like to know is this, When did bard charm kiting become a thing? On P99 bard charm kiting has never worked due to the mobs not agroing the charmed mob, Could this ever be fixed so that Charm kiting would be a thing again?

Ps Op you are possibly the first person on this server i have seen straight up admit to you're crime and just ask a legit question of how long will i be punished you get a semi kudo's from me.

There was never a 'cartel' in Chardok. If you showed up early enough you would be the person who ran Chardok for the day.

It's not so much salt in my opinion as a clear example of how we are not actually classic. The PBAE change was implemented to solve a problem, a problem that arguably will not affect the "classic experience" of 99.9% of the player base. A shared bank slot would be a change done in the same spirit as the PBAE change.
good point
