Always been interested in mages but when I realized they have no form of CC, that's completely stupid. Pure caster with no root but even... paladins get it. I guess if you get a multi pull you just hope you can nuke shit up faster than your pet dies but wizards have root exactly for that.

Mage is cool to summon random stuff like haste mask or whatever that you drop transfer to the character you want to play.

It is up there with whipping out sword pets in Kc groups.

Hard mode EQ combined with a fantastic spell book and cool looking gear. Hell, one of three classes that can cast sow.
