Pretty sure if you did hardmodes you spent hours corpse running/buffing heh. I agree open world is better, I wouldn't be here if I didn't. I just don't see how people think WOW is easier - if you do, you either A) didn't make it to high rated arenas or B) didn't attempt hard raiding content. If you hit max level in WoW and had nothing to do it most likely meant you were a scrub, sorry to say.

I've done a lot of gaming, anything from Dota to EQ, to starcraft to golden eye, EQ isn't really that hardcore IMO and even WoW is harder which is why I find the comment funny. I don't think people experience proper nerd rage unless you've been in vnet for high rated arenas.

As for the WoW comments, the difference is that like all games where PvP is kept into a seperate arena, with teams that can't communicate, safe zones, and staged fighting all between people who, if they communicate at all, do so through the occasional forum post, it doesn't really add much to the experience or community.

WoW takes more skill to play well than EQ ever has (note the well, yes I know you can button mash and get by). Hell I would even say vanilla wow took almost the same time to hit max level as EQ does on Project 1999. Unfortunately it just does not have the community, the camaraderie, or the direct competative experience that EQ, shadowbane, UO, etc could offer with the whole world open to PvP. That is why most people will never consider WoW "real" PvP. You aren't fighting for anything. In EQ PvP nothing is instanced, you are fighting for your ability to advance or to prevent others from advancing. Or of course just to talk shit. It just has a completely different overall feel to it.

That all said I still think using "go play wow" as an insult is retarded.

As for EQ exp. If you can't play the game and enjoy it without instantly hitting max level and ganking people then I don't think you are going to enjoy a "classic" experience. Everquest EXP is not really that bad all things considered. I guess maybe if you plan on playing a troll SK? lol

Jilena yep it always amuse me when people say WoW is easy mode. Raiding and PVPing in WoW is probably 10 if not 50x harder then anything ever was in Everquest. But the thing that makes Everquest so enjoyable is the way you get punished for everything you do and how time consuming the game is. Everything you do has a huge impact. Traveling takes ages, dying and getting your corpse takes even longer especially if you died deep down in a dungeon. Also having Sand giants, Griffons etc roaming noobie zones is really charming.

In WoW nothing you do has an impact, you die? Big fkin care it takes 5 seconds to corpse run and you start fully geared at the zone in ready to fight again. Also the huge lack of things to do when you're in a raiding guild can get you quite bored of the game.

It's basically like this in WOW. It's really fucking easy and casual for a noob to quest, do dungeons and get max level. Even my cousin at 8 years old could get max level and do arena. However the difficulty of end game raiding or end game PVP require way way more then any other MMO has before in terms of skill and mind.

I think the main reason I quit playing wow was it was so tailored to the players that you really didn't have to try anymore. End game is not that difficult. Find 10 people who aren't completely fucking retarded and you can clear everything once you devote enough time to gear up. Arena pvp is formulaic, get the right add ons and class combinations and anyone can get 2200. You can also level a toon to 85 or w/e it is now in prob 2 weeks, grind heroics for another week and you are now ready to raid. Try and do that in EQ.

I think the whole "ez mode" comes from blizzard spoon feeding its populace and lack of punishment.

Go play wow, it's easy mode.

This is completely unrelated but I really don't understand that try WoW attitude. I got into somewhat high rating 3's in arenas 2250-2400 bouncing back and forth and it turned out to be like 5-7 pts a win and around 20 a loss it felt like. The game required a shit load more macros and abilities to be succesful and much more attention to my group with blessing of protections, freedoms to break stuns, ccs dispelling etc- a lot more twitch abilities that require speed much more then EQ. I don't play wow anymore, and really got rather burnt out on it, but I just don't see how being succesful in arenas is easier then EQ, because it really isn't - the only thing carebear about wow is levelling - even the PVE is much more difficult then EQ heh. We wiped so much doing hardmode that fucker on the tank in ulduar, and heroic sindragosa required about a week of daily wiping to get down - never even touched H LK from burning out and quitting. Anyhow enjoy reading that block of shit pals.
The attitude that MMOs start at max level is a very wow way to look at things. And if the classic exp rate scares off some VZ/TZ fefs? I think that would be a good thing.

Could not agree more, and I hope that is what happens. The ratio of classicEQer to griefer is already way too out of balance.

Of course the majorty of an EQ forum (that still plays EQ nonetheless) is going to believe that EQ is a harder game than WoW. If you are of the mindset that WoW is a lot harder than EQ, then congratulations - you probably bested high school.

Sure EQ is incredibly simple, but there is some charm even with the limitations of the engine. For the most part, modern MMOs don't give you the ability to be a huge griefing shitbag to the population.
