Again, not drag and used for comedic effect rather than approval and acceptance of drag culture.
I think the issue is that masculinity is increasingly vilified in today's culture while the opposite of masculinity is praised (drag is most certainly the opposite of masculinity). It coincides with a continual declining of testosterone in males. We are losing our "manliness" and ostracizing men that show masculine traits while praising men that show non-masculine traits.
It's not good. Drag is not a cause or an effect but the sudden surge and acceptance of it is. It's been around forever - Philippe I, Duke of Orleans in the late 17th century was a crossdresser - but it wasn't like now where that behavior is praised. It wasn't accepted then but Philippe was the king's brother so he was the exception. Masculinity as defined by the time still ruled.
