It’s interesting. A parent can request medical records from any behavioral health clinic, but schools might function differently
Even if a parent requests records, a therapist can use the “do no harm” clause as a loophole, making an assumption that “outting” the kid’s sexuality would result in emotional damage or some shit, and redact that from the records given to the parent. So they would see a case note, with a giant black bar over part of it. Then it would be a battle with quality control over what was redacted
But, what’s going to happen eventually is one of these school counselors are going to think they are being a hero by helping a kid transition, and not report to the parent that the kid is suicidal, something you absolutely have to do. Then once one of these kids completes suicide and it comes out that the school counselor knew they were suicidal and chose not to inform the parent, they can lose their license if they had one. School counselors aren’t really able to practice mental health though, they should only be doing academic and school environment-related counseling
