But are there more casual non-professional participants of MMA than of other traditional martial arts? That I don’t know. The traditional martial arts are still useful as a workout method, I imagine that is their main draw now. Whereas before MMA became as mainstream, traditional martial arts were seen as more useful for self-defense

If it's on TV being hyped up like UFC is then it's trendy to watch it and trendy to be a martial artist, but it doesn't mean it's popular. How many people are there in the world and how many people can fit in a stadium? How many people watch it on TV? What are the viewing figures? Going by the viewing figures, all spectator sports are a minority past time but receive a disproportionate amount of coverage.

Trends come and go, they are here today and gone tomorrow.

The UFC, like all industries, have an achilles heel...they all rely on slavery to exist.

Once the slaves have an alternative option to working for $5 an hour just to make the Dana White's of the world rich, the industries will die....all of them. Pop stars would literally have to personally burn their own CD's instead of exploiting cheap labor.

You wouldn't see UFC ever gain because once the US$ becomes obsolete UFC becomes obsolete.
