I created Lagaidh yet again and set out to see what it was like.

The first few days were okay. I met folks had small groups. But then, just like blue, you begin running into people who are in a hurry to the top and you find yourself a target simply for your take-it-easy approach. I kiiiinda sorta figured that's how it would be and it looks like a blast for folks that like the different layer.

And given a few days among ye, I'd really enjoy it if you red folks could just boil it down to "because we like fighting people". That's what it is. Nothing more. Nothing less. And damn it that's cool enough =) I'm glad they made the server for pvpers. Over time maybe more folks from the old pvp servers will hear about it and thicken up the population.

I'm going to have to agree with other blue folks who say if one is really bored on blue, then red may not necessarily be the answer. It turns out the same things I've always hated about pvp are fairly classically represented here =)

For me, the main problems with Red are:
  1. Not enough people playing . . . so many dead zones
  2. 1 guild on server dominates everything

I started a new character on Red and was surprised how good the community has been. Haven't been PK'd once at low levels and had a nice druid port me to a better location. I've been unable to make lasting friends etc though, because there's hardly anyone playing in my level range. It's just a population issue mainly. Be fun if people I knew played. As of right now I just can't get myself to log in.

Actually I wasn't as bored with blue per se, I think I glommed onto that notion from another poster. The forums, over time, had given me pause to think about my old assumptions when some stalwart blue folks decided to test PvP.

That made me curious enough that I decided I'd have a look. Must be somethin' to it right? Bob's there. I truly see the other side of the coin now, whereas before, I thought it was solely about e-peen. So hell, my stint on red moved my knowledge and that's a good thing.

I'm sure I'll log on time to time and give the odd caster a target that can get to the zone instead of provide a low, medium or high quality dwarf pelt for the effort.

I'll be like the sympathy-fuck date on which to practice.

One thing I will give playing on Red is, and god knows I am no fan of Red, is you had better be good at playing your class or you die a lot. So it does make you understand your class better. Not a bad thing for sure. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

I think this is a fundamental problem with Red, actually. Having only one competitive guild on the server makes it feel actually less challenging than Blue. PVP is one aspect of Red, but PVE is still there as well and a big draw to people wanting more challenging content. If I wanted PVP only I'd play Call of Duty, not EQ Red . . .

So yeah . . . soon as players join the only competitive guild on Red they are instantly granted all end game content? They don't even have to get to 60 or make any effort at all? I wouldn't be advertising this so openly if I were you. The whole reason I tried out Red was to see if I could be challenged a bit more, not less.

With all due respect...there is nothing difficult about Blue's FTE Jav Spam raiding.

I do enjoy the raids that we get attacked on a lot more however. Even the raids that are not contested still will have some pvp. Either clearing out people between us and the target or dealing with people trying to take out our stragglers.

Red is vastly more entertaining than Blue high end. No waiting list for camps so you can farm what you want when you want. Don't have to fte poop sock for targets, if its contested you fight for the merb, if not you kill it and move on to the next. And if you are bored and max level you can actually do something besides roll an alt or farm for cash...go hunt people.

Also, getting a VP key on red isn't exactly zero effort. PS and RS are two of the hottest pvp spots outside of KC, you will be constantly hunted while trying to camp those stupidly rare spawns.
