Most are asleep and will never wake up. imo this will all end in fire by the hand of man one day, tragically. Not for a while yet though. As for wealth, I have no issues with it, only what some people do with it, and not speaking of giving it away.

what you call "the internet" is a set of protocols that allow different networks to be connected. Funny how all these networks all owned by private companies just agree to freely give access to their infrastructure so that the internet can route through their stuff ? that's the heart of internet. these protocols are not owned by anybody, they're all open sourced, no one pays anything to anyone to use them. All the servers are run on GNU/linux, you think it's owned by finland ..?
Now ICANN was the only of the internet governance that was an emanation of a government (the US). It worked well until now, but what happens if the US government, i don't know, ever gets someone who wants to "close the internet" ..? ICANN shouldn't be under the control of any government, period. what if hillary stop giving a domain name to breitbart.com ..? wouldn't you agree ?
