The cause isn't just though is the problem. 80% of black people in the country want the same amount or more police presence in their neighborhoods. Defunding and\or abolishing the police is a suicidally dumb idea, *especially* for poor communities.

If you could wave a magic wand and eliminate any racial animus among every police dept in the world, cops would still occassionally have to kill a black dude, like they do every other race, and somebody would film it and put it on facebook, and credulous bored idiots would riot again. There is absolutely zero chance that wouldn't happen.

When we went out on the town in the mid-80s my friend would bring his .45 just in case. On the one hand we all thought he was a bit fucked in the head, and that kind of played out when he was actually hospitalized some years later. On the other hand we were glad to have Bill with us.

A corollary: the worse the town gets, the better the music. And I have to tell you, the NYC music scene is the worst it's ever been. There's no edge left...at all. Maybe this will bring some back.

That's because many of the cheap to live in "incubator neighborhoods" have become too expensive to live in for many aspiring musicians. Which I find strange, since plenty of Queens, Bronx and Brooklyn have areas that are yet to be completely gentrified. Manhattan is done though.

Nah I just told you precisely where you can find the opinion polls I was referencing. How can you possibly not understand that communities riddled with gang violence, which dissuades investment by business, which generates tax revenue, need *more* police and not less? Police should be better trained, and payed *more* so that they have an incentive to not fuck up on the job. When you defund and demoralize the police, you put innocent people in those communities at risk of being victimized by criminality, and you also make it more likely that the cops who remain won't really give a shit about what happens because they're being paid beans.
