If not, Wis and Cha are fairly worthless for a mage I believe in BG unless you make them more valuable with a mod. You can put a bard on the team or use another NPC mage with decent wis/int if you like high lore auto-identifies without having to rest over and over to ID stuff. High WIS will someday have good value if you plan to level this char obscenely high in BGII for the wish spells. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

However for most people, 18/19 Dex and 16 Con are very helpful for all the non-warrior classes in Bg1 [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Dex I think you can get set to 18 with some gloves from the gnoll fortress.

His smug arrogance and insults are also very entertaining with the much respected and well-loved BG1npc project Mod which I would call the best Bg1 mod I have played if you don't mind NPCs being as chatty as the NPCs in BG2 and more modern team-based RPGs. (Note: time between major banters in real time is pretty adjustable during the install so you arent bombarded with the new banters too often.

It also adds some nice little quests to many of the original "Bioware" aka Vanilla joinable NPCs [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

I feel the new writing for Kivan, Xan, Xzar, Montaron, Edwin, and Coran were especially well done but I had no big complaints about any of the fan-made additions that I can remember. If you give this mod a try, be sure to install the music pack for the new banters for even more good tone/flavour(For example, Kivan the Chaotic good ranger was given a nice tune from Kill Bill when his banters come up.) Yes yes... fan made additions can be considered notoriously bad by many and I have played some janky ones with pretty bad or quite silly writing. But in all honesty I would call the writing of Bg1Npc Project actually superior to some of the new official BeamDog characters' writing added to the Enhanced Edition of the game.
