Did you miss the memo from Rogean where he tracked down and banned cheaters?
I must have missed it; all I saw was painstakingly tracking down cheaters, then letting them go with a slap on the wrist because the developers didn't anticipate the gigantic groundswell of popular outrage that they didn't follow through on what they said they were going to do in such a situation.

I bet alot of people will be on it a little while just because it's a fresh new start. After that wears off people will most likely move back to project 1999

If this is true someone should have brought it up sooner. If two players hand in PoD books can they not heal each other?
Yes, they can heal each other but...
its totally NOT the same thing

Turning in your books DOES NOT equate to red pvp
turning in your books on a blue server is basically running around with auto /duel on for anyone else with it on, problem is....
there are tons of players running around with it OFF

That does not = pvp.. pvp opens up contention for item camps, raids and disputes
you cant solve any problems or do any of the above if blues dont want to /duel you (be red)

The other function of turning in your book is...
that it ONLY allows you to recieve beneficial buffs/heals/ports from others who are also red
(to stop anyones blue buddies from creating an unfair battle in a duel type scenerio)

So...
turning in your book opens up pvp capability to other reds, but cripples any long term or any serious play on a blue oriented server
and in short, turning in your book is equal to an enclosed, ongoing multiple duel ability (with limitations)

imo, being able to kill someone on EQ (outside of pnp) goes in this order:
1) duel - (single pvp)
2) turn in your book for "pvp" status - (multiple duels, cut off from the rest of the population)
3) play on a pvp server for "Red" status - (open or general pvp)

So you understand why "Reds" laugh at suggestions when they are asked to turn in their books and play pvp on a blue server
who would in all honesty, create an unfair environment or limit themselves (group/guild) to the rest of the server?

Don't think there will be the numbers. Blue99 is what, 3 years old with 800 primetime? Red99 going to be a ghost town. If there's enough consistent players to foster two high-end guilds having enough people on around the clock to fight over spawns like Trakanon...I'll eat my Runed Cowl.
P99 is 2 years old..
and the 800? thats current players, id say at least that amount has alrdy stopped playing by now and theres still people coming in.
the population seems to be a revolving door at this point.. as someone mentioned before, their seems to be as many people leaving as their is coming in.

That being said, i think Red99 will regain some of the players that left (who want a fresh start) and attract those watching server updates from other forums around the net.
pvp servers are always lower in pop then their blue counterparts, but it should stabalize with a decent amount after initial launch.
(ALOT more then the 12 here you recognize from the forums)

Okay, so this is working how I originally thought. So really the only difference between here (if all who wanted to turned in books) and Red99 would be that you couldn't kill blues out of camps.

Is that really where most of the fun is? I definitely see this being entertaining, but I can also see it losing its novelty pretty quickly. I thought the fun/competition/skill is more about actually combating players rather than doing tricks like engaging them when they're fighting mobs or charming their healer and running him out of the room when they're fighting Ghoul Lord.

eh, i guess
If you like to solo your way to the top and not participate in groups or raids
can just farm pixels at your leisure on a pve server (assuming the camp is open)

It is about being able to combat players.
* players who try to take your camp from you
* good guild/group battles for high end mobs
* great for making friends (who you will need at some point or another)
* great for learning more of the game, zones and stats! (also needed for combat)

This can be fun at times to! (and also sucks at times!)
Its a give an take really, and doesnt happen everytime you engage a mob as long as you stay on your toes and are aware of your environment.
just remember... your NOT on a pve server, you are on a PVP server and you will be fine
