Let me confirm that I have been bound by many of these myths myself in early EQ.
-Moving around to get melee to work better...check
I still do that... it still seems to help, lol. I'm sure in reality it doesn't.

I catch myself hitting for low numbers, then moving around a bit to face the mob from a different spot just to see if that fixed it. I know it doesnt really help, but the psychological fix is there...

THAT DEXTERITY EFFECTED HOW OFTEN YOUR HITS LANDED!!! HOLY CRAP I DUMPED ALL MY BEGINNING STATS IN TO DEX AS A HALF-ELF WARRIOR.

In retrospect I now know why I sucked so much. I didn't find out dex had no bearing on chance to land a hit until PoP....

Other stupid myths:
-You could pick up a thrown item. I tried it on a dragoon dirk around level 8. I never got it back [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
-That you wanted a big number on your weapons, namely delay. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
-You could get re-aggro with a mob at a great distance despite zoning out and zoning back in.
-That the world was really this dark (until I adjusted gamma which was set automatically at max low when I began)
-That skeletons in EC dropped Lamentations (from Kunark), but was in reality a rusty mace.
-The warriors were a good class to play back in classic.

People kept saying "mobs" and I assumed that meant there was a huge group of things you had to kill >_<

Dexterity in a warrior would affect how often a weapon procs though, doesn't it? Which is good for holding aggro? I don't know much about warriors but this doesn't seem like the *worst* thing you could do with your starting stats.

I'd also get gear that was heavily dexterity-oriented...anyways, my objective was to increase my dex which I thought would increase the chance to land a hit, not procs. I didn't even know what a "proc" was when I started the game.

Has anyone mentioned that having a Plains Pebble in your backpack would make you eat less?? Where did this myth come from? Did it work at one time??
Oh yes, I was all over this one too when I got started out.

That the first Orc pawn that I killed was now going to have the legions of Crushbone come and kill me. That the vendor's recommendation that "You look like you could use a rusty mace" was a valid recommendation and as such I would see how much it was and then go kill enough crap to buy it only to get Your Class / Diety cannot equip this.
That is awesome. I laughed out loud when I read this. Too funny.

Or if you didn't loot a mob's corpse - it would take longer to respawn.
I believed this for the longest time too. I started playing live again a few month ago, and the folks in by group kept telling me it was true. It's still believed even today.

The one I heard, but never believed, was you could practice '/random' to get better and roll higher numbers more often. I would often see noobies randomly rolling as they camped orcs in the commons.
